  • Sale! tall, monochromatic dark grey stone sculpture depicts a four-armed Hindu deity, almost certainly Lord Vishnu, standing centrally in an intricate bas-relief. The deity is adorned with a tall, ornate crown (kiritamukuta) and elaborate jewelry including necklaces, armlets, bracelets, and a waist belt, all finely detailed. Vishnu's front right hand holds a lotus bud, his front left hand rests on a club or mace (gada), his upper left hand grasps a conch shell (shankha), and his upper right hand holds a discus (chakra). He stands in a serene posture on a multi-tiered, circular pedestal, itself resting on a broader rectangular base. The central figure is framed by an ornate, arch-shaped prabhavali (aureole or archway). This archway is richly decorated with a series of smaller narrative panels. Along the inner edges of the arch, there are ten distinct rectangular niches on each side, vertically stacked, likely depicting the Dashavatara (ten incarnations of Vishnu), such as Matsya (fish), Kurma (tortoise), Varaha (boar), Narasimha (man-lion), and Vamana (dwarf), followed by human forms like Parashurama, Rama, Balarama or Krishna, Buddha, and Kalki. The apex of the arch features a prominent Kirtimukha (glory-face) motif, with celestial beings or flying figures in relief on the curved upper sections, flanked by decorative scrolls. Two larger, standing attendant figures, possibly consorts or celestial beings, are carved in relief at the base of the archway, flanking Vishnu. At the very bottom of the sculpture, on the pedestal beneath these attendants, additional smaller figures, appearing as devotees or sages, are depicted kneeling in adoration. The entire piece showcases exceptional traditional Indian stone carving and craftsmanship, with every element meticulously detailed, emphasizing mythological themes and religious iconography. The dark grey, matte finish of the stone evokes a sense of ancient artistry and spiritual gravitas. A transparent watermark for "the Stone" is subtly visible on the lower right side of the sculpture.
